I am a Volunteer Fire Fighter in New York. I would like to wire a LED light to the fuse panel instead of having the cord from my dash board to my ciggerette lighter. Does anyone know if it is possible to wire this light directly to the fuse panel and use the on/off switch that is on the light itself? the Light only draws .5amps during its operation. If I am able to wire this to the fuse panel, how would I go about doing it?
Thanks

they make a piggyback fuse thing that most auto part stores sell. it basicalyl gives you a another fuse slot and a postive wire coming out of it. they are sometimes called Add-A-Fuse.
With that, you would have a 12v+ line. (which can be live when ever the car is on, or all the time, depending on whether or not you choose a switched fuse slot)
From there, you could wire the light directly to that line for +, and ground the negative. If you don't feel like opening up the cigarette ligther part of the light, you can go to radio shack and buy a female lighter unit from them, and wire that under the dash.
I did the female lighter unit for my ipod charger, since it has some circuitry in the lighter part... works well. mounted it under the driver side knee bloster.
