I had to catch myself when I was recommending 40 weight only, newer advanced additive packages (like borate esters) were coming onto market which allowed generally lower running viscosity. Nate's UOA is confirmation of this, reflecting additive chemistry and American driving cycles. Case in point: 5w-20 oils.
I think common sense should rule with visc. High oil temps, heavy mods or oil burners should look toward thicker viscs. The PP 10w-30 has very low volitility and the 5w-30 has very good cold temp visc, thinner than some 0w oils at about 0f. That brings me to my next point, 5w-40 actually sucks in the cold. Toss some in the freezer next to a 5w-30 dino or synth and you'll see what I mean.

always out of stock!!! !%$@x%$@$$munchers!
Until I can get my hands on some I'll just stick with the M1 T&D 5w40.
