So this was said to me today...
"If not, the oil doesn't meet Audi spec. It's too thin. It will wear okay but if you push it hard (especially in warmer weather) it will breakdown badly. With that oil you would need the Xw50 oil or probably the euro formulas (euro specs not listed). My guess is only the Euro oils are apprived by Audi/VW. The HTHS value is just too low in the US oils.
The reason your first oil sample wore so bad is because of your fuel leak. It washed down your cylinder wall and you got excessive wear. Once you fixed the leak the wear returned to normal.
You need to bump up the oil thickness if you want to keep running that oil. If you check the back of the bottle the approval number would be listed (VW 502.00)."
I disagree on "Audi spec". I ran this oil through the hottest and coldest months of the year with ambient temps going from -20 F to hitting over 100 F. All that happened on this single run, by the way.
I used Audi spec oil before and it was meh at best based on the previous report.
