Had control arm problems about a year ago. Making all sorts of awful noises. Asked my shop if they had ever seen them break, They said they hadn't and people usually just replace them because of the noise. I decided to keep mine on, due to lack of funds. After about 3 months, all sounds stop. Not saying they will never come back, nor can i tell you why it stopped.
Moral: if you can tolerate it and the embarrassment of people looking at you waiting for your car to die on the spot; go for it. Otherwise just get it over with.
I believe it's only the front lower control arms that need replacing. anyone confirm?
