i'm going to purchse wheels soon, and my friend today told me hands down to go with 17" over 18". he said the extra money spent on wheels and tires is not worth it at all... what's your opinion on this?
second - i wanted to get the wheels painted, but he told me to go powder coating instead. how dark can powder coating get? i wanted real dark, like a flat black, will powder coating give me the look i want? which would be better quality? would painting the wheels recult in chipping, etc??
thanks for any feedback - much appreciated.

If you can find someone to powdercoat it will be a harder finish for sure. I don't think getting true black would be a problem. I thought about doing this to my wheels, but the places I talked to wanted way more to powdercoat then to paint.
I gave up on refinishing my wheels myself. To make the story short, I got them done (and they looked good may I add), went to NTB to get them mounted and they scratched the paint while mounting the tires. I wasn't about to spend another week on them so off to a pro they went. Should be done in 3 weeks

Not sure if they are powder or painted.
I've had 18s on my car for almost two years (CHs and SLs) and I've had zero issues with bending. In fact, I tracked the car with the SLs and after the event forgot to raise my tire pressure. I drove around on 26psi for 7000 miles with the only problem being bald tires (yeah I know "check your pressure jackass!").
18s will cost more as will the tires. As far as ride, I noticed more of a change going from OEM sport to coilovers than going from OEM 16s to 18s.

Which is exactly the reason I ended up getting my BBS CH in 18".
You can powder coat the rims to a flat black finish. "number7" and/or "dark cloud S4" both had/have flat black powdercoated rims on their cars.
