Greeting!
I just registered as a new member today.
My name is David and I live in Fairfield, CT, and here comes my question:
Currently, I'm in the market for 1996/7 Audi A4 and want to find out the major difference between 2.8 and 1.8T. Also I would like to know the common problems with a4 produced between those years. Any inputs would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
PS: if you know someone who is willing to sell his/her A4 for cheap, please email or pm me

The 1.8T wasn't offered in the U.S. until 1997.
The 1996-97 2.8L engines were 12-valve engines. Starting in 1998, the 2.8L was a 30-valve engine.
Leather won't be available in the 1.8T models of that vintage.
I don't have any real good advice about buying. It comes down to the condition of the car in question. I have only owned a 2.8L and I still like it a lot, but there are as many or more people that prefer the 1.8T for it's tunability.
