WTF? Why does the new Jetta have 180 hp 1.8T and we get 170?

Strange thing is with the 1.8T or even the 325i, with lesser horsepower, we don't seem to be very
far behind, say a Maxima with ~230hp (old gen) or the new Altima 240HP ON the highway. Maybe coz' the torque, but the torque on the 1.8T (nonchip) is around ~170. But why don't I feel like it is slower than the 240HP Altima?? Stick or not? Remember I am on the highway. So it is either 4 or 5th gear.

He cannot afford the A4...
He wanted to by my A4 since I have a 2002 on order but then saw the Jetta and started talking his crap. I would rather have an A4 anyday over a V-dub.
