Girlfriends 95 nissan altima's clear coat is peeling. We were thinking off wetsanding the clear coat off with 1500grit then spraying on 4 or 5 coats of clear on top of that. was thinking 8 12 once cans of clear would be enough.... We are trying to avoid repainting the whole car. I found a few sites were I could egt all the materials for under 100 bucks. Anyone have any experience with anything off this nature and have any advice?

Were trying to spray paint a new clear coat on, not base coat. Its an older car and not in the best shape.. were just looking for an improvement not perfect paintjob. Some of the spots have oxidation spots which will obviously show through the new clear coat. Will 1500 sand through the clear coat? trying to do as little damage to the paint as possible. Think 8 cans is enough?

I'm no expert on painting but i would be a little worried about doing what you plan. I would worry about proper adhesion. If you plan to spray it with a gun I would use ppg's color blender under it to help with adhesion. Your going to have to sand the whole panel because you wont get a new blend with spray paint. Just trying to help but i personally think this isn't the best idea. Maybe look into a maaco paint job? That's not meant as an insult but if you do the prep and just have them spray it, it should turn out pretty good.
