Xenon troubleshooting questions.
My drivers side low beam (xenon) was out. i checked fuses 18/19/20/21 and all seem to be fine. I took the balast from the working passenger side to see if the balast was faulty but it didn't work. I then reinstalled the passenger side and now both sides are out.
I also tried to hook the the high beam upto the drivers side xenon and still nothing. So now I have no low beams. The high/fog/city lights are all operational.
Are the fuse locations 18/19/20/21 the correct fuses to check for a 98.5 2.8Q? Before i buy a volt meter and check the column switch is there anything else i can check? is there a relay for the low beams?

Ouch!
I was going to suggest the swapping bit...but now that both are dead, I'm thinking the same thing you are...the column switch.
What I don't get is why one low beam was working if the column switch is dying. Anyway, check that out first, get it fixed, then go back to the ballasts and bulbs. AFAIK, there is no headlight relay (which is the reason the switch fails in the first place).

is it raining where you are?? its very possible that its wet in one spot @ a connection
its been happening to me.(only in HEAVY rain) if it warms up soon I'll be taking it all apart and soldering the connections, and put heat shrink tube on it.....like i should have done in the begining!!

Switch...
You stated that you checked the fuses already. You're using the factory unmolested wiring with the halogen, correct? If so...I would go about checking the switch. Based on your account of events, it sounds like you may have more than one problem, but I think you need to check/fix the switch first, before you can continue troubleshooting. On a 98 car...the switch should be on it's last leg right about now. Their typical lifespan is about 4 years.

Re: Did changing the switch work?
Hey, I'm in the same boat. My drivers side low beam went out. I've already replaced the headlight combo switch twice so I'm hoping it's not that again. On the flip side, if it's the switch AGAIN, it should be under warrenty? and I'm getting really fast at replacing it! Let me know how you got this problem resolved. Thanks, 1999 Avant
