Xenon upgrade

Xenon upgrade
Can anyone advise where to upgrade to Xenons in the Chicago area? Has anyone had experience doing this and are you happy? I have a 98.5 A4 and have never been happy with the non Xenon stock lighting and am looking for improvements. Thank you.

many people have put in aftermarket xenons
you need to get an H7 shaped bulb kit. They run about $450 or so depending where you buy from. Many people here will also tell you to upgrade your housings to projector housings. you can get the housings and the xenon it from SPP.
If you decide to get new housings, then you'll be getting a D2S bulb kit. These are bulbs for projector housings. If you decide to keep your stock housings, then you'll want a D2R bulb kit. In both cases the bulb shape is H7...but D2S is for a projecotr housing with light cutoff in the housing. D2R bulbs have a built in cutoff since a reflector housing has none. If you go with european one piece projector housings, you will have to trim your inner fender to make them fit, and do a little wiring as well. Both job are pretty straightforward. The fender trimming can be done with a dremel. Good luck.

http://www.supremepower.com</a

Re: Xenon upgrade
I just upgraded to a 5400K HID kit from SPP and it's a dramatic difference from the stock halogens. There are several options out there in terms of bulb colors (4300, 5400, or 6000K; the higher the number the more blue your lights will be) and installation. I originally purchased a kit where you had to connect the wiring harness to the battery. It was a very messy setup where the harness was about 5 feet and had to be connected to the battery. I returned that one and got a kit from Eric at SPP, which was a much simpler setup.
I believe all the kits, though, require some sort of dremelling or cutting of the bulb splash guard. I was a bit squeamish about this at first, but I needed the better lights so badly I just bit the bullet and am very happy with the results.
Talk to Eric at SPP, though, he's very helpful. Good luck!

I've done it and I'm in Chicago.....
It was stock 1-piece OEM projector housing with non-xenon regular halogen bulbs. I got the SPP aftermarket Philips 4300k xenon kit for $500 or so early this year. Since I don't want to spend extra $$ at that time to go to Euro housings, I need to do all the dremeling to get the ballast fit underneath the housings. It's not difficult, just watch out for shavings that would get into the housing and it's a PITA to get them out.
It's like day and night difference switching to the xenons. If you want to see the lighting output on my car, let me know.

I did it in Chicago area too...
I have a 98.5. I originally bought the Euro housings from PG Performance in Canada. Then later on I got a used OEM Xenon kit from an Audi A6. (it uses the same bulbs and ballasts as the A4). They work great and I am really happy with the results. The OEM lighting on pre 99.5 A4's sucked to high heaven. Those old two-piece housings were crap.

if not, i have a pair of OEM xenon housings. they have the clear corner mod done to them, but are in great shape. email me if interested. i'm in the northern burbs.
