I have a new intake gasket that should've gone in when I did the injector o-ring replacement last year. I also found the cause of my fuel smell: injector #4's retaining clip failed and let the injector slide out just enough to leak fuel on cold starts. When it warmed up, it resealed and stopped leaking. Oh well, easy enough to replace the clips.
Throttle body and intake manifold got a serious cleaning to remove years of carbon and varnish build up. I used Wynn's air intake cleaner on the throttle body and that some serious ****. It blasted away stuff brake clean wouldn't touch.
The intake manifold is going to need a more serious cleaning in a parts wash at work, so that'll wait until Monday. Until then, I'm driving the Golf.
Quick pictures from the work so far (I've since plugged the intake openings):

Latex gloves can't stop those from getting through.
****, I was in open air and I could still smell that Wynn's stuff. It's borderline caustic.

Oil and gas spills are repelled. They are form fitting so when you remove them your hands are sweaty.
Stepping up to nastier stuff I use a $ 6.00 pair of heavy-duty scrub/clean/light industrial gloves that are green in color. They look like long-sleeved dishwashing gloves and they last forever as long as you aren't TRYING to pierce them. They're thin although thicker than the double-strength latex gloves and oversized. However, being thin, they're pretty flexible. I have a thick pair of black "all-chemicals DENIED" gloves for truly nasty stuff but they're bulky.
