Default "Audi tests in Germany, Castrol SLX Long Life 2 resulted in fuel saving of 2.72%" 19,000 mi services

I just came across this, thought it intresting enough to post. I am afterall, the "Oil Junkie".

"Important - Special Oil Requirements

To benefit from the new technology and Audi Variable Service Intervals, newly developed Long Life oils such as Castrol SLX OW30 Long Life 2 must be used (please refer to owners handbook). They have been specially formulated for Audi and are a new generation of ultra high-grade synthetic oils designed to withstand ageing and high loads without deterioration. Using ordinary high quality multigrade oil will not cause any engine damage but it will defeat the object of the new technology and cause a service to be needed at 10,000 miles. In addition, compared with conventional oils, Long Life oils gives exceptional levels of engine protection, are kinder to the environment and deliver fuel savings. In recent tests carried out on vehicles in Germany SLX Long Life 2 resulted in a fuel saving of 2.72%"

The link explains the 19,000 mile Variable Service Interval to a small degree.

http://www.audi.co.uk/customer/servicingoption.jsp</a

Default We have it at many AutoZones, 6 for 5 sale makes it about $4 a quart.

If you find it, buy a few cases. 10,000 miles or even 1 year is fine on this or M1 0w-40. Twice a year is great too, but I would not buy any other oil, (except Amsoil) for this interval.

Default Long-Life I & LL II are different versions of the same 0w-30 oil, 2 is low HT/HS, 1 is normal.

Everyone I know using German Syntec reported a mpg bump, this confirms the ***-factor. A 0w-20 SLX just came out too, but believe me LL1 and LL2 are the same oil, just LL2 is for new roller-rocker engine designs but can use LL1, normal engines cannot use LL2...use Syntec!
