Default $370 to replace inner/outer CV boot on right front, did i get ripped off?

he quoted me $275 originally for the inner, then charged another $90 for the outer boot ($50 part + $40 labor). i questioned the dude as i was expecting $300, but i wasn't sure if $50 was accurate for the boot or not.

Default I'd say so.

You can buy a new axle with brand new boots and joints from raxles.com for 200 shipped.

Default aliso foreign car. i've had some pretty bad luck with finding decent mechanics.

i was aware of the $200 raxle option, but as i understand it those are usually rebuilt (and that doesn't include labor).

sounds like sub $300 would've been more reasonable for just both boots.

Default Well, get quotes from several places and find out.

Given that labor rates are around $80 for a decent shop, and its at least several hours of work (book rate), so the $275 number sounds about right with the parts cost listed.. I don't know where you could get a decent quality boot for $10...

Default I paid $250 for an outer on my A6 from my local indy.

$370 to repace both isn't bad.

My guy says the replacement kit is $50, so that sounds right.

Default yeah he specifically replaced only the boots.

$275 for the whole axle doesn't seem accurate. i did call lots of shops before hand that quoted about $380 for the whole axle replacement depending on a new or rebuilt axle. the problem is most of the shops also said prices would vary depending on the specific axle (which some shops wouldn't even try to guess on).

dealer quoted about $380 for the boots, and something crazy like $1300 for the axle.
