J/K =)
I'm also putting on 70+ miles a day with my A4. That means you probably want a car that is meant to be driven and not stuck in the hands of some mechanic. You want something that will keep you comfortable during the drive, yet give you an experience of being one with the road.
That's why I got the 3.0 with nearly every option. The longer drive allows me to unwind in my car after a hard day at work. Just like you, I wouldn't get any Audi without Quattro. It's great for performance runs and wet roads, but it's essential for the Winter.
I've done some mods to the 3.0 too for a little extra punch. Go for the 3.0!
Oh yeah... I've had mine for almost 2 years now and should be hitting the 50,000 mile mark in a few weeks. Still runs like new! =)

so if you want to keep it stock, not mess with the warranty and stuff, the 3.0 is a good way to go. Its not THAT much more expensive

That's what I have. I took mine, which is manual, last weekend to Chicago (I-88 & 290), I got rain, traffic, speed zones, etc... man that's the way to go. On the traffic the clutch didn't bother me, on the rain, when everybody slowed, I keep going @ the same speed like a breeze, even better, with the response of the manual trammy (keeping it over 2K all the time), I was able to change lines pretty quick.
If you think about it, all you need is a very responsive car for daily commute, so the maxima, altima and bimmer's jerks learn to show some respect, you don't need a jet, 'cause the I-90, I-88 or 290 will just frustrate you. The 3.0 for the daily commuter has exactly the same things as the 1.8T (I mean, stop and go quick, audio, confy seats, sunroof, QUATTRO!)
That's just my HO.
