Default [audio ?] will this setup work?

Hey fellas, i currently have a JL 500.1 amp and i have the opportunity to pick up one of these:

<img src="http://www.carreview.com/Channels/CarReview/images/products/Product_154510.jpg">

i'm thinking of trying to swing about $100 for the sub and box, considering it's a year old.

<img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/18972/sub_002.jpg">

is my offer fair? or am i lowballing the seller?
will the setup with my amp and this sub work? i don't want to send too much power to this sub and end up blowing it.

here are the specs on the sub:

KevlarŽ-infused pulp cone
1" Santoprene rubber surround
dual 4-ohm, 2" voice coils
frequency response 24-1,000 Hz
power range 100-300 watts RMS (150 watts RMS per coil)
peak power handling 1,000 watts
sensitivity 87 dB
top-mount depth 6-15/16"
sealed box volume: 0.7-1.0 cubic feet
ported box volume: 0.75-1.75 cubic feet

Thanks for the help guys<ul><li><a href="http://www.carreview.com/Subwoofers/Alpine,SWR-1241D/PRD_154510_1808crx.aspx">http://www.carreview.com/Subwoofers/Alpine,SWR-1241D/PRD_154510_1808crx.aspx</a</li></ul>

Default I'm planning on a JL 10w6v2 in the future, but i'm thinking of getting this to hold me over for now

at least until i can save enough money and time to get the JL sub and build the custom enclosure i want.

Default yea, as long as the sub is still functional

i just sold two polk momo 12" subs with box for $200. im happy with a good set of componants. the subs weigh to much. but the type r with dual coils is a reliable sub.

Default Turn down the gain on the amp so you dont send as much power to the sub

I had a 700 watt rockford powering 2 of the alpine type R's and it sounded sweet.

Default the rms for the sub is significantly lower than what that amp puts on continuously. def regulate it

the 300 rms will be sufficent for sound.
