Default ^%#$#@#^%#&&!!!! Glove box door hinge snapped. ^%&^$$%#%#!!!!!

I searched and noticed this is a very common problem. We should get a petition together to approach Audi USA and demand they own up to this major design flaw and offer a fix for it. You pay close to $30k for a premium vehicle and you'd expect the simple things to not break so easily. Geez, I'd bet a friggin Kia never had a problem like this.

Anyway, I'm out of warranty and my CPO warranty doesn't cover it. So I called the parts department and and they wanted over $300 for a new door. Even searching the 3rd party Audi parts suppliers the best price I could find was around $200. That's a pretty ridiculous price for what amounts to not much more than a plastic panel with a hinge on it. $2.50 in materials cost tops.

Either way, for the short term I'm going to try and glue it back, and maybe drill a dowel hole through the hinge and the panel and insert a small metal pin or something to reinforce the glue joint.

Does anybody have suggestions for the best kind of glue to use? I once used a two-part epoxy on my old A4 to glue the arm rest door hinge that snapped off, but that epoxy never lasted. The glue, once fully cured, was too brittle and the joint would eventually fail again... and again. I had to keep re-glueing it several times. I wonder if there's a better glue that maybe stays a little more flexible and grabs onto the plastic a little better. Any suggestions?

Also, for anybody who has repaired or replaced their glove box door, do you have a writeup on how to remove it?

Thanks

Default You're going to have to bite the bullet on this one....

That door is eXpensive everywhere. Cheapest place I could find was ClairParts and it was still like $250.

And the way it's made, it's almost impossible to fix. Unless you can fibricate something from metal.

Default Marine GOOP will hold well and stays a bit flexable. Reinforce like suggested VVVV

Check this DIY (with pics).<ul><li><a href="http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2359362">http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2359362</a</li></ul>

Default Yea I've tried all the online Audi Salvage yards... nobody has one. Must be a popular item

In fact, one guy I called started laughing... he was like "good luck finding that... they are always getting inquiries for that item..."

Great.

Default make sure you replace the dampner

That is what causes the hinge to break in the first place. If you don't your fix or replacement door will also break.
