Default '02 A4 1.8TQMS vs '03 A4 3.0QTip

Just got a '03 A4 3.0 Quattro Tiptronic as a loaner car today, and I must say that I am very surprised at how "slow" this thing is. I have to admit my 5-speed 1.8TQ is much peppier around town and it seems to ride even better on the highway. But of course, the 3.0 engine sounds very nice, but I have to admit that this car is slower than I thought. I would have to drive a 6-speed 3.0 to compare to my car, but just my initial impressions.

And btw, I am surprised at how bad people treat loaner cars too. This loaner has only 2300 miles on it and there are stainless all over the leather and marks on the front console. My car has 10X the miles and it looks brand new compared to this loaner...

Anyways, I am just ramblin'....

My 3.0 six speed is definitely faster than the stock 1.8t I test drove

Default A Mazda Protege with manual will "seem" peppier...

than an autobox -- even though it is not. It is just the perception when you row through the gears. A closer feeling would be accomplished by using the steering wheel/or shifter in Tip mode and run it in higher RPMs and do the shifting yourself.

Personally, I feel there is a noticable difference in power in the 3.0 (I have the tip) and the 1.8T (non chipped of course). Both are great but there is a pretty big diff down low.

you have to test drive the 6spd. I don't think it is fair to ever compare an auto to manual.

Default I agree. Plus the 1.8T 5-speed requires more babying than the 6-speed

When i test drove both, I found a noticeable difference between the two. The difference is not as pronounced as i would have liked...but it is there. And the 6-speed 3.0 is smoother to me.
