Default no you misread...

i said the 149 miles was all city....

i get like ~330 miles on an all highway drive with is better than 20 mpg (considering i fill up approximately 16 gallons)... its hard to judge that way of course...

but no definitely not 10 on the highway otherwise id be driving a different car.

also depends on the speed... this 330 miles is considering ive gone a speed of 85-95 the whole way which isn't exactly fuel efficient... im sure the mpg ratings are done at like 65 mph... and my highway drive is too and from college so generally my car is loaded up so its at its heaviest as well....

Default Re: no you misread...

I know you meant city, but still shouldn't be 10mpg! That's why I was asking if very short trips with engine never fully warm...which would be an impossibility on hwy.

Yes, keeping it at 70mph or so will surely help.

Actually, according to EPA, hwy rating is taken at 48mph. Which is why legislation just passed to change formula for EPA ratings. The masses aren't happy about figuring gas mileage heavily into a purhase, especially if making a compromise, and then having the fudbuster they just bought get much lower MPG than stated on sticker.

Also, I just look at the ave mpg on info display if i want a good laugh. Gotta do the full fill--drive--full fill again...then break out the old calculator.

Default yeah short drives...

engine barely gets up to temperature... and the rest of the time im in stop and go and when i get the chance to open it up i do ...

so none of those are good conditions for good fuel consumption

Agreed. Car gets no gas mileage at all when idling at a traffic light.

Default I average 21MPG

This is over the last 2 years. I get 12MPG in stop and go and another less 2MPG with temps below 50°.

I would say 13MPG is normal if you're in an area like LA.

Default omg, that's terrible....I average 18-19 in the city, even during winter...

I do get about 13-14mpg for the first 5 minutes of driving on a 0degC day (32F).

How are you reading your MPG? There are 3 read outs of the MPG on the display (instantaneous, trip average-resets if car has been off a long time, and lifetime average-never resets unless you force it too). You should hand calculate it out and see if that's what you're really getting.

Default hand calculations are usually how i go... but they can't be perfect

all gas station pumps fill to a different level so its hard to tell if the amount of gas you just put in is actually how much you used driving... although its gotta be close though

Default doesn't sound too unreasonable

When I lived two miles of city streets from work I would average 13.5 mpg on a tank in the winter (3.0 QM) - since I moved 10 highway miles away from work I average 19-20 in the winter. Alot of engine efficiency is lost in the heat sink of the engine block until it is warm.

it sounds reasonable. my 02 1.8T gets me 16 mpg for 100% city driving
