Default 03 A4 tiptronic trans failure tips

I am interested in buying a 2003 A4 front wheel drive tiptronic with 130,000miles in the odometer , the cars rides and feels good, the tip transmission in manual mode works properly but when in auto mode" normal driving" in D drive setting the transmission fails to shift and stays in one gear, any idea what may be wrong? Thanks!

I would stay away regardless of the problem, find another tip that works properly.

Yeah, front wheel drives tend to have nightmare stories...

Default You mean auto FWD right?

I've never had any nightmare story on either of my manual FWD Audis with combined mileage of nearly 300,000 miles. The only peeps I've ever heard of having any issues were a select few CVT folks. I still had the original clutch in my last Audi at 225,000+ miles, & it drove great even then.

A side note from an online forum perspective:
We're obviously a lot more likely to hear the horrors on a forum. Especially when a lot of posts regarding failures come from first time posters seeking help, or more often just a second opinion. I might just be fortunate though. People post about problems all the time that can seem like the end of the world, but in actuality aren't all that bad (coil packs come to mind). I do have to admit that your first coil pack failure seems like the car is going to fall apart though. But $25 & a 1 minute plug & play later & everything is hunky-dory again.

Basically, I can't relate to most people's car problems on AW. Sure, I have a few minor issues, but what car doesn't? Honestly though (as always), my biggest concern is the rock chips on my front bumper that need to be repainted. In closing, THE biggest problem I see over & over again is not with the car as much as it is with the Audi dealers. And that is just sad & inexcusable. They should stand behind their product, not away from it. I can't help but wonder about a company's true financial state when they don't stand behind their product, especially these days. I used to drive Mitsubishis, but when they started their 0% campaign back in 2000, I thought that it could only mean disaster in the long run, & they've never been the same since. That sucks because I loved my 3000GT, & so wish they'd make a new one of like quality.

Default It's a CVT, they don't shift....

manual mode just selects 6 preset ratios of the drive system, I'd be hesitant buying a CVT but if it's a good deal and runs good now you might be OK...haven't seen many issues lately but when they came out there were a lot of problems
