Purchased an 04 Audi A4, had it checked by a mechanic, and purchased the car. Drove it for the first time and noticed a hiccup in the transmission as it tried to switch gears around 10 mph. Brought it to a pro transmission shop, and they said I'd need to replace the CVT tranny for $8,000. In what world is a transmission worth $8k!!!
I only paid $7200 for the car. The seller refuses to return my money, even though I noticed the problem immediately after the sale completed.
Any thoughts?

That shouldn't cost $8K. Shop around. You should be able to source a rebuilt CVT tranny for way less than that. I'd say you should be able to get it all done for $4 - $4.5, maybe even less.
That said, CVT is a bag of hurt. Manual and Tiptronic are both solid.

It shouldn't cost $4500 for any transmission. I literally just bought the car and have no interest in dumping a ton of money into it. The seller should return my payment, but she says her "obligation has been fulfilled," even though the car had a problem an hour after I received it.

It would be worthwhile to get a second opinion on the transmission. Just out of curiosity, did you not notice the "hiccup" when you first test drove the vehicle?
