I think I need to upgrade the sub in my '04 S4 Avant. The stock one is pretty feeble. I want a clean/stealth install, ideally in the same location as the current sub/amp behind the right hand trim in the trunk. I'm not sure if it's the same in the A4 Avant or not but I can't imagine what else could be there.

Has anyone else done an upgrade? Did you replace just the speaker, or the speaker and the amp? Did you run beefier power cable to the amp?

I don't want excessive bass, just a fuller sound. So I don't want to go crazy and install anything more than I have to. Ideally just replace the speaker itself if that can make enough of a difference.

I can't use the space behind the left-hand trim since that's already taken up by my stealth PhatBox install.

The subwoofer in the back of your trunk is of standard size, but it has a proprietary bolt pattern on it from Bose. This means that the standard shape and hole pattern on an aftermarket speaker will not just drop right in. So, you will need to do some modifications to the speaker surrounds of the aftermarket speaker to get it to fit.

I don't have the Bose package. Is the Bose subwoofer mount the same as the standard subwoofer? Or does what you say only apply to the Bose?

Oh, sorry. I thought the S4s came standard with the bose system. I am not sure what the bolt pattern is likeon the non-bose system. Does anyone else know?
