Default 1.8T with chip OR 3.0?? Help!

I am a future convert from my 2001 BMW 330ci to the new A4 quattro. I need some advice on whether to buy a 1.8T and chip it OR purchase a 3.0 (both manual). Money isn't the biggest consideration, but of course can't be taken out of the equation. I have heard that the 1.8T with a good chip can out-perform the 3.0 AND continue to give better gas mileage? Your thoughts.....

Default consider...

as far as souping the car up, the 1.8T has much more potential than a 3.0, but youll have one less gear and less luxury items.. it depends on if you want to save a few thousand and put it towards aftermarket stuff or getting something pretty fast from the get go...

Default in all honesty...

this topic has been dicussed many many times before. Probably some people will reply your query, but I recommend to search the B6 forum on this topic should you need a more thorough and comprehensive feedback.

"souping the car up" I haven't heard that phrase in a long time.

Default A peeve of mine. When people say the 3.0 has less potential

"The PES SC for the 2.8 is $4,995...

IIRC, they were on sale a while ago for around $4,600.

Well, a chip for the 3.0 boosts output to 235HP and 241TQ, compared to 215HP and 250TQ, using APR and Wett. specs. The APR S1+ retails for $999 while the Wett sells for $399.

I do agree that the 1.8T has more options between stock and turbo upgrade, but spending $2K for a K04 upgrade makes little sense.

$/HP ratio for the above chips is $22 for the 1.8T and $26 for the 3.0. AMS is the company charging $9k for the SC. I am sure it will be great, but it's not worth it to me, for only 300HP."

Previous <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/294383.phtml">post</a> of mine, on the subject of 3.0 and 1.8T.

Default NA cars are usually harder to get power out of than turbo cars..

but I understand that the V6 comes with much more power in the first place...
