The 1.8T (edited to forum purity standards)
Just wondering... does anyone think the 1.8T has too many caveats for such a lo-po motor?
Items such as:
- one/two-minute cool-down after driving
- DBW throttle that does what's good for the EPA and not the driver
- premium fuel requirement for only 170hp
I dunno, but I wouldn't mind these idiosyncrasies if the engine were making 280hp, but to get a decidedly slug-like 125hp motor to make a meager 170hp with all the attendant crap, it makes you wonder what Audi was thinking.
So concludes the daily rant (and yes, I own a 1.8)

I like a motor capable of 170-300 hp for not too much cash
oh and unless you were auto-xing or on the freeway doing a constant 100 - "one/two-minute cool-down after driving" is a bunch of bull

I disagree just a little
I think anyone who is going to need to let it cool down, or be conscerned with dbw, is going to mod the car anyway, which puts you at a much higher hp, which makes you think of those two things. I think the average joe will A) not even think about the cool down thing, nor need to worry about it, and B) Won't notice any dbw issues.
So since I will be up over 230hp (hopefully) I would have to consider these trivial IMHO, or should I say "par for the course".

I won't malign my 1.8T...
I guess I don't have to win stoplight races...don't we all know its 0-60 time by now? (hint: it's not close to an M3) Speed is like money: you always want a little more.
Still, I'm thoroughly impressed with the car--the handling, poise on the road, interior/aesthetic qualities.

I think the engine is great, sort of...
Smooth, no real lag. Easy to drive.
It's just not enough for such a heavy car with a 4wd system that also robs a little power.
I don't think of German cars as drag racers, so off the line does typically suck, but I don't care since I'm a roll-on kinda guy, but I think it drives quite well for all but the more aggressive of us.
I hammer mine sometimes and never really sink under too far under 20mpg with the hardest driving. My old '00 VR6 Jetta drank gas like a V8 it seemed.
