Default 1.8T engine swap details needed

Hey everyone, I own a 2002 A4 1.8T QM and the engine died. Luckily Audi has that extended warranty to cover engine failures related to oil pressure. Oh wait, I changed the oil on the car myself and as a result am now in possesion of a heavy paper weight. Anyway, I have found a replacement engine but I'm not sure that its fully compatible with my car. The engine that I have found is a "2005 VW 1.8 TURBO COMPLETE ENGINE WILL FIT MK4 JETTA, GOLF or the New BEETLE". Does anyone know if this is the same engine??? I would think it is but that would make this way too simple.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Audi A4 1.8T is longitudinal; Jetta, Golf, TT, Beetle are transverse

Default true, but technically, arent' they the same engine and it's just hte mounting points that have the

difference? should be the same engine block right?

mtxa4, is the engine used? might come off with a better engine if you brought it to a shop and have them rebuild it cuz you're not sure how long the new one will last either. might be about the same price.

what did they access on your old engine? block seized? pistons broken? might be salvagable... my .02

Default agree, id look into a rebuild first, and if your performance minded and inclined...

upgrade the internals where you can...and slap a big ol turbo on there...prolly put you in the same ballpark $$ as a new/used engine and install

That is what I was wondering...all 1.8T engines are the same engine block, so why would I not be able to change the mounts and use it? Example being in the SHO community it was thought the 3.2L engine couldn't be swapped into the 3.0L cars but someone later realized that it was possible after many years of being told that it wasn't.

**edit** The VW engine is a AWP engine code **edit**

This is actually a new VW engine. I've looked into what options I have and the stealership quoted $11,900 to replace the engine. I got some quotes from salvage yards to engine w/turbo for about $3,000. I was just going to do the engine swap myself and save the money.

The dealership just did a quick "hmm, it doesn't start and it had the low oil pressure? Well, Audi just replaces engine". That was about as far as they went. Currently, the car still turns over but it just has no compression. I've been considering getting it rebuilt but I'm thinking a tear down is going to be required first prior to making that decision.

Default good for you! the project might take a while if you've never done it before

but if you remember what you did when taking out the engine and go in reverse, you should be all good. bently manual helps as well as someone who knows engines or who's done the swaps.

with all that money you're saving, you might still be able to expand the project. port and polish the heads, change to lighter/stronger, race pistons, etc...it's actually a good project to take on if you have the time. makes you understand your car better. good luck with it!
