Hi guys,
I own an A4 1.8t quattro that is currently equipped with a K04-15 ebay turbo (ask the previous owner why). The exhaust side of the turbo warped and is not sitting flush with the exhaust manifold anymore; this lead to blowing gasket every week, poor performance and horrible sound. I was planning with going for the GTRS turbo kit, but we don't have eliminator kits in Europe. I found some, imported from the US, but the price is not making it worth it. After hours of research I found out that the GTRS kit does not use the GT2860RS turbo, it uses the GT2860R. The compressor and turbine wheels are the same size, however, the GT2860R has those bolt holes for the intake inlet and outlet, which makes it perfect for fabricating some flanges on the CNC.
I am thinking about buying a T25 flange exhaust manifold, cutting my actual downpipe flange and welding a T25 flange on the downpipe, and then fabricate the intake inlet and outlet for stock hoses. I am not quite sure if this is the right way to make the turbo fit in my car. Will the intake outlet be in the right orientation for the stock pipes? Will the turbo and wastegate actuator have enough room in the engine bay? Will the turbo line up with the downpipe? I can't waste money on the turbo and then find out it does not fit. Did anybody already fit this turbo so they can give me some advice?
