1.8TQ Tiptronic - Rapid tire wear (all-season Pirellis)
Folks:
I'm the caretaker of my mom's 2004 A4, it has the 17in wheels w/the P6000 all season Pirelli tires (it does not have the sport suspension).
The car has 15,900 miles on it and the tires are about 50% worn. Odd, since the treadwear rating on the tires is 400, she drives the car very moderately, and the inflation pressure is monitored carefully by yours truly. Wear is even across the whole tire, so no alignment issues.
Is this typical treadlife on these tires? I know the car is heavy and the AWD takes a toll on the tires, but I have similar wear characteristics on my BMW's tires and they are 220 treadwear summer tires and I drive the wheels off the car!
Any insight???
Thanks much,
-Brian

as with any tires, its important to rotate tires frequently. i do every 5K and...
i'm running 225/40/18 BFG KDW2's which are Y-rated tires. so far i've put on 20K and theres still a lot of tread left, easily over 50-60%
also be sure you check the tire pressure too.
