100 Octane Fuel...
I understand what octane does for fuel, but I was wondering if there is any benefit of 100 Octane for 1.8T engines if they run stock? Does the car somehow figure out what octane fuel it's running and increase compression if higher octane fuel is present?
There is a Sunoco near my GF's apt that has 100 Octane fuel for $4.89/gallon...

Be careful
You mentioned the word airport (or maybe apt = apartment?). Make sure they aren't selling 100LL (low lead).
Airplane engines use 100LL and that might be what they are selling.
BTW, I can get 100LL at our airport for $1.89 a gallon.

Apt == apartment :)
Thanks for the warning, I wasn't going to bother wasting the $5/gallon unless there was some tangible benefit from it - so there was no chance of filling her up with LL fuel.
Also, the fuel is near the New England Speedway in Laconia, NH - it's labeled "100 octane race fuel". I suppose it was brought into town for the motorcycle races that went on during motorcycle week up here. I don't recall ever seeing it before.

My bad
Sorry, when I see APT, I think "airport" since I am a private pilot. : )
Hopefully someone will answer your question correctly then. I am curious too.
From what I understand, the ECM will advance your timing to take advantage of the octane and give you a little more HP, but I am not entirely sure.
