Just imagine how much lead 100/130 aviation fuel had then! Running a higher octane fuel will help the engine in your car as you stated. Now for a stock A4 (no chip) I doubt that 100 octane will bring any benefits. However in a chipped car under high OAT and high humidity the 100 octane may help further in the fact that it might prevent pre-detonating in the motor and give you increase power.

higher octane will reduce the knock... and the knock sensors will see that..and allow the engine to advance the timing...thus giving you more HP. But at stock boost, 91octane is plenty.
Remember...Octane is a simple measurement and unit for determining "Anti-Knock".
