been sucessful resolving this.I'm taking my 03 B6 3.0L Q 6speed to the dealer tomorrow to get this looked at.Strangely its worse when the tranny is warm than from cold. That runs counter to what normally happens. My B5 tranny wasn't buttery smooth but it was much better than this. The dealer's initial reaction was "oh ya guess we'll have to replace the syncro."I'm not real pleased with that idea unless they have a better component than the origional because the next time it wears out it'll be my nickle.Any comments?

my 5sp (1.8T) is definately notchy (at best) when cold, but I find that if I work third and fourth (when I'm at a stop), it helps to alleviate the notchyness until the tranny warms up. But the tranny being warm and this problem showing up more is definately counter intuitive. Maybe there's an adjustment on the stick itself that is out?

More than just notchy, and it happens no matter how gentle I try to be. Maybe I'll have it looked at when my 5k service is due.

I'm right there with you, 3200 miles, I'm going to take mine in this week. $31k for a car... it shouldn't do this.

Mine was worse when cold, but I managed for almost two years.
I started to get annoying warning signs in the last few months. It would occasionally grind through no fault of my own, when cold. Later it started grinding occasionally when warm. A week later it completely failed.
One point of this message is to tell you not to ignore warning signs. Transmission failure follows them CLOSELY.
The other point is to GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY if you plan to keep it past four years. I don't trust this thing further than I can throw it, and I'm in the same boat you are -- the next failure will be when I'm out of warranty. They don't seem to have anything better than what you are experiencing, so a replaced part won't fix you much; it'll just delay the inevitable. Get the warranty.
