The wild-eyed tree-hugging environmental anarchists in the Minnesota state legislature are attempting to implement this requirement in the next several years.
They have the research types in the Minnesota universities doing politically inspired studies that claim that this will have no adverse effect on the engines, performance or mileage.
What is the likely effect on Audis and cars in general?

Im from South Dakota and they push ethanol a lot because there is an ethanol plant in my town, but all of the gases with ethanol are like 87 or 89 octane unless it's E85 which our cars can't run. They already force no ethanol gas to cost more than gas with ethanol, i would think that would be enough.

Corn farming lobby actually.
Most environmentalists think it's a bad idea. It takes almost as much energy to produce corn ethanol as it creates and it drives up the price of food significantly. Still it means less high frutose corn syrup for them to jam into every food and drink item available for sale so there might be some benefit.
Ethanol engine performance is fine - just that ethanol has slightly less energy density so your mileage per gallon is a little less than fossil fuel.
Perhaps you could join a university faculty yourself and do your own research if you don't like the conclusions other people doing research come up with. There are lots of vacancies.

im not saying im for all ethanol, i was in the hospital a few years after the ethanol plant was built in my home town and the nurses were saying that since the plant was built that had been seeing more younger children with health problems. could be coincidence, they say its just steam coming out of the plant, but if you smell the air on the same side of town the plant is on you can tell it's definitely more than steam. probably off topic but oh well.

In a year, the U.S. consumes about 146 billion gallons of gasoline, and that number keeps going up...
There's not enough land in the continental USA, to grow enough corn, to meet our ever increasing fuel needs, and still have land left to grow all the other products we need....

http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/mer/petro.html</a

that you need a LOT of corn to produce very little fuel. On a mass scale, it's just not feasible. And keep in mind, I'm not talking about land to grow corn, my beef is with the process in creating the fuel. There's got to be a smarter, more efficient way.
I think super efficient Diesel is a much better option for the short to mid term... like that new VW. Put that engine in an Audi!
Besides, we're easily 10 years from seeing anything mass produced beyond the Prius [which, BTW Toyota takes a $20k hit on for each one].
