2000 mile road trip on brand new engine?

I'm thinking of taking a rather long road trip, mostly highway miles, with my brand new Avant. It will probably have 200-300 miles on it when I depart on this 2000 mile trip. Is this a really bad idea, bad for my engine?

I did it (3,000 mi). Just didn't use cruise control and varied my speed as much as possible.
I had only a couple-three hundred miles on my car when I started the trip. I have 20,000 miles now, went 10,000 miles between these last two oil changes (per spec), and have never had to add oil (and yes, I check it regularly). No problems. Runs just like it did when it was new (better actually ... torque seems to have improved).

In addition to varying RPMs, you may want to do frequent stops....
...to cool engine down, at least during first 500 miles. That will also give you a chance to apply short bursts of high RPMs at slow speeds, which is recommended during break-in period.
Certainly it's worst thing to just put it on cruise, so you are asking the right question!

Avant = best looking wagon!
