Default 2002 Quattro - Reverse Shift Noise

Just bought a 2002 Quattro. When shifting into reverse from park, it makes a clank noise. Other than that, car is great, no noise in forward gears. Anyone know what might be the problem? I am taking it in, but would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. Hopefully, just a small adjustment.

Default There is no synchromesh in reverse

This is what I was told when I owned another manual transmission car. Just shift a little slower than normal when you go into reverse, and there shouldn't be much clunking noise.

Default He said shifting from park, so I assume he has a Tip. B5B6, is the car totally stopped when you...

shift? Many people, with both automatics and standards, shift into reverse with the car rolling forward slightly, which can cause noises/problems.

Thanks, but this is an automatic...kind of makes a clank when placed from park to reverse. Otherwise, no noise in forward gears.

Sounds like it is comes from just underneath the floor shift. It's an outomatic, tiptronic.

Default Excuse my stupidity, but what is the floor shift?

does it happen only when you turn on your car and then shift from park to reverse or also from park to drive? If it happens under those two scenarios only then that is your ABS engaging. For some reason it is more noticable on our car than on any other I have ever driven. It scared me too when I firsted picked up the car.
