Default 2003 a4 1.8tq rear brakes size

hi, i'm finally getting around to doing the brakes on my a4. i know what to do for the 3.0 upgrade to the fronts, but i'm not sure what, if anything i need to do to the rear brakes (other than pads. i've deciced against ss lines).

the ecs site says my 1.8t a4 has either 245mm or 255mm rotors on the rear brakes. the 3.0 is a 255mm. i haven't measured the things, but, if i have 245mm rears, can i just get 255mm rotors and have them work with whatever calipers/pads i have back there?

or, if i have the 245mm, do i just have to stick with the 245mm rotors?

thanks

Default Rears are 245mm or 255mm...

... it would be to your benefit to measure them before ordering from ECS, as the rule-of-thumb on size depending on model year is not set in stone. IF you have 245mm rears, you cannot put 255mm rears on your car with the current caliper carriers - they just won't fit. Remember, a large part of your braking work is done by your front brakes; I wouldn't worry about spending money to increase my rear braking moment arm by 5mm.

I would just leave the rears alone. I'm running my setup with oem rears + hps pads.

Default thanks, now about those pads...

are the PBS ceramics (on the ecs site) with the sensor wires OK pads?

and how important are those sensor wires anyway, i notice none of the hps pads have the wires.

if you can point me to a good thread on the topic, that would be great. i don't track my car, and i'm just looking for low noise, low dust pads that are a notch up from stock.

thanks

245 were 1.8t prior to late 2004 build; 255 are 3.0 and 1.8t post late 2004

Default I'd get Hawk HPS on all 4 corners.

STFA (search the forum archives) for the rest. It's been discussed.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a4gen2/msgs/994870.phtml

Default You sure of that? Don't know why they'd go back to 245 for early 2004 1.8t

My 2004 had 245mm rears. Don't know why they'd do late 2003 with 255 and then go back to 245 for 2004 model and then switch back again at end of 2004. Can't find any info showing that 255 came on any 1.8t prior to late 2004, even though they were on all 3.0L.
