2003 A4 Avant 1.8 Transmission Failure
Recently I had my car roll out of my driveway and travel about 75 yards. The engine was not running and the transmission was in the "neutral" position when this event occurred. Three weeks later, my transmission failed while I was driving. The car will travel in reverse, but not forward. It also appears to be leaking transmission fluid pretty badly. Obviously, the car is not operational. Upon doing some research in the factory manual, I discovered the following warning issued by Audi,
"Caution: Coasting downhill with the transmission in N and the engine not operating will result in damage to the automatic transmission and possibly the catalytic converter."
I was wondering if anyone else has had any problem similar to this?
Thanks!

Best thing to do is take it to a shop and get it checked out, if its leaking fluid it might be too low to drive the forward clutches and further running it could cause more damage.

Being that the cars are so sensitive to fluid type and level, Audi doesn't want anybody messing with there transmissions unless you have the right tools to do it.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that the "PRNDS" on instrument cluster is completely backlit. I've seen a few other instances where people had a diagnostic tool to get the error code from that. I'm not sure how that all works, but they were able to read the code and figure out the underlying problem. Thoughts?
