Hey wondering what prices people got these two preventative maintenance items done for, timing belt and water pump. I have been estimated at getting the job done for $700 and some change wondering what others have been priced at for an A4 1.8T.
has anyone replaced a sway bar link before? and how much did that cost?
Thanks

$870 seems a little low. My dealer did my belt for me (barely pre failure at 58k) and it ran me right around $1000. No new water pump.
I know you get the shaft at the dealer, but $700-870 seems suspicously low for that service. Figure the parts are going to set you back a solid $200. Those are some cheap labor prices.

Need to make sure the full timing belt service is done, including the serpentine belt and tensioner. In The SF Bay Area, its hard to find any shop that will do a full timing belt service under $1000.00, but you may have much lower labor rates where you live. Just make sure they aren't doing any short cuts or using lower quality parts.

for my 02 3.0 v6 it was like 1100, they also found oil pooling in the spark plug holes so they had to reseal the cams which was another 1000. luckily i have a warranty.

3.0 is much harder...
it only took me four hours to DIY and parts are about $250 for a complete kit. if they did your Timing belt and didnt do a new water pump, you just got effed over. The water pump is most likely to fail with the OEM plastic impeller although mine looked perfect at 77k. i went with the metal one (i think thats all they sell now anyway)
there are several guys on audizine who do it for $250+ parts

i would be more than willing to pay $250.00+ parts for a new timing belt that would take the cost down (for me at least) about 1300+/- if there is anyone in the Utah area that could do that i would be more than happy to pay you that rate.

Thanks for the input everyone.
My guy is going to take a look at the serpentine belt but he said at 72k it probably won't need to be replaced yet. I also had a scrape under the front right wheel it shaved off a pretty good chunk of my sway bar link (for lack of actually terminology) any idea on a cost to replace that part (attached to the A frame) i will probably need an alignment afterwards as well.
Thanks
