Default 2004 audi a4 acceleration issue, what's the cause?

When i am at 3k rpm's, and "gun it" the car hesitates or shudders to accelerate and sometimes the CEL starts to flash, but never stays on (it did stay on one time after this, but it was a gas cap error). The spark plugs were changed 1k miles ago.

What do you think is causing this issue? I am at a loss now.

Need to download the codes to get a hint. I am not good at interpreting codes, but someone is bound to be able to help once you get them.

Sounds like the typical coil pack failure that is common on this car. Which engine do you have? You should still scan for the codes, or have it scanned somewhere, because this will tell you exactly what is going on. And if, in fact, it is a coil pack, the code will tell you which cylinder so you don't have hunt for it.

like previously mentioned, sounds like a coil pack. especially if it's only when hitting the gas and not just coasting or decelerating. With the CEL coming on, it's bound to have codes, so VAGing should tell you what the problem is.

Could be wrong, but a coil pack will manifest itself across the RPM band, wouldn't it?

Yes, but it's definitely more noticeable when trying to accelerate, at idle it's just a bit rough. It certainly could be something else, but the coil pack seems like the most likely thing. Of course, we are all guessing, which is why getting the codes is critical.

Theres no CEL codes to name - the light isn't on (it "flickers" or blinks sometimes when the car is hesitating).

Have you scanned it for codes or are you just assuming there are none because the CEL doesn't remain lit? Whenever I have seen a blinking CEL, it is because there are cylinders misfiring and there are codes generated. Another thought, did you check the gap on the sparkplugs to ensure they are within spec before they were installed?
