I have a new 2004 1.8t quattro 6spdm fully loaded to the tilt with the XM infotainment. I will confirm for you that the BOSE system does not play MP3's although I wish it did. This is my first XM radio and I get so much variety I don't miss the variety I had in my old mp3 player in my old car. XM + in-dash 6 disk changer is enough to have variety and play the music you want.

Default negative; actually, the 2004 A4 has one of two distinct head units, the

Symphony II and the Concert II. The Bose option simply adds power/equalization to the head unit.

Neither head unit plays mp3s on a data CD.

My understanding from the dealer (two of them, in fact), is that the XM can't be used with a CD-changer...
Tell me you have it! Was it a dealer install?
I have XM; went to two dealers to get a CD Changer, and both say it can't be done with the symphony head unit.
yikes

Now you may be talking about something different between a "CD-Changer" and the in-dash 6-disk changer. I have the in-dash 6-disk changer and the XM infotainment as all in one package. It's part of the package and a standard install from AUDI, not a dealer install. Now I'm not sure if this is combined with the Premium package or not because my A4 came with every frikin' package possible.

All I can say is that it just came all setup this way and XM is SWEEEEEET!
