Default Sure...

EDL controls left to right wheel spin.
TorSen controls front to rear torque split.

If the ABS/EDL sees a differential in speed between a right or left wheel, it will apply the brake on the wheel with less traction thus transferring torque to the one with more traction.

If the TorSen senses a differential in speed between the front and rear axle it will shift torque to the axle with more traction.

I agree with you that the older generation Audis did have a mechanical lock and when in use they lost their ABS system IIRC.

I don't think by loosing traction on only one wheel the car would be immobilized. You would perhaps need at least two, one on each axle.

If a front wheel spins, the TorSen will see the speed differential and shift the torque to the rear and vice versa.

As far as EDL not being on FWD A4s, look again in an owner's manual. In my 1998 B5 Passat it was the only electronic aid available with ABS, no ESP, no ASR, no EBD. The system cuts out IIRC at 30 KPH (20 mph) on a FWD car. It will also disengage if overheated. So if you are stuck in a snow bank and try to pull out, it will after a while by the logic in its software disengage, so back to a normal car you go. The early model A4s had ASR which included the EDL. Maybe someone here on the board with a FWD model could look it up.

Today's VWs including the Passat, Jetta and Golf all have the ABS/EDL and ASR to help you under acceleration so as to not loose traction.

I can assure you that you can get all four wheels to spin on a Quattro, even on dry pavement. The guys who run lots of power on a FWD A4 will get lots of wheel spin too and the EDL will not interveen because of the speed at which it is happenning. Most guys that drag modofied B5 S4s bypass the EDL so that it won't rob them of a few tenth on the strip.

Finally I just wish Audi would give us a purely mecahnical limited slip diff, at least in the back.

Default Are you a spy for Acura/Infiniti? If u were a regular member your arguments would hold some

credibility. most of your responses have been copy and paste. with your limited post count, its hard to believe whatever it is your saying. have fun with the G35.

Default they are totally different cars. acura and infiniti does not come close to

what audi bmw and mercedes does. They try to imitate a luxury vehicle, while they fail miserably. You can tell as soon as you sit down and look at the cheap interior.
