2005 price increase + cut dealer profits?

I'm looking to buy a 2005 A4 1.8T Q auto within the next couple of weeks. I was in the dealership today talking to one of the sales guys and he said the MSRP on it with light silver paint, premium, and sports was $34600. He said that Audi raised the price of the A4s by like $1000 and cut the dealer profit margins and so they were charging some $600 additional fee. It doesn't all add up though.
I haven't heard anything about a profit margin cut, and even then, a 2004 setup like that is only $33,020 MSRP with CA emissions and destination. With even a $1k price increase, that is only $34k.
I think I might call him back and tell him $32.5k and it is sold. That's ~$1500 over MSRP over an 04 plus $1000 increase. Hmm, maybe try $32k first.
Anyone know for sure what the new base price is?
Thanks,
Ken

I just ordered an A4 cabriolet. I got the same story from 3 different dealers. I never heard the $1000 number. I figured it was more like $600. All 3 dealers told me Audi changed the profit margin from 9% to 6%.
