quickly but did not notice this when he had a 99 2.8 a6.. is this due to the non dbw? any one else notice this. It could be dangerous when needing to get moving in a hurry the car starts to rool but just sort of like thinks for a second or two..the service manager says that it is normal...is it?

Default I don't notice that, but...

in second gear (6-spd manual) when accelerating hard from ~ 2500 rpm there's a noticeable power dropout, for about 1/2 second, but then it comes back... Anyone else experience this?

Default Most likely just because tranny stays in top gear

Try holding the car in a lower gear (like 2nd or 3rd depending on your speed) with the tip controls and see if the lag is still there. If it is it's the engine. If it isn't, it's just a typical automatic transmission being in the wrong gear at the wrong time.

I have a 3.0 Tip and notice absolutely no lag or issues with the drive by wire. In fact the opposite is true...it is so sensitive to throttle inputs I have a hard time keeping it smooth sometimes.
