lamp power consumption. The total power used by the arc discharge type HID lamp, must include the extra power lost in the ballast due to the effiency of the ballast (input watts/output watts < 1.0) providing the conditioned 400 Hz AC output voltage waveform and limiting peak lamp current, as needed to start the arc, then control the power consumption as the lamp warms up. The pre ballast power consumption for the D4 is the same as the D2 system. Both ballast types load the power supply circuit the same. The ballast output power is approximately the same also, 42.5 volts X n Amps = 85 volts X n/2 amps, but the current/time profile is different.

try and limit the jargon. But even then, I also realize that for "nuts and bolts" subjects some background info is helpful for many forum readers, and isn't necessarily meant to imply that I think the background is needed info for the poster I am replying to. Anyway, thanks for the feedback! It's good to know that it's useful to the forum or not.
