Default 6th gear on 04+ vs 5th gear on 03.....

Is the 'extra' gear on the 2004+ to help drop the top gear RPM in top gear or is it more for the mid-range acceleration? Meaning at 75 MPH is the gearing in top gear is relatively the same or does the extra gear result in a significantly reduced RPM?

TIA.

I think they spaced gears out more rather than a real low over-drive gear

Significant drop in sixth gear. About 800 rpm less at 60 mph IIRC.

Default You think that's significant?

I actually hoped for a nice low overdrive gear. I don't know if you've even been in a C5 Vette on the highway. It gets awesome mileage because it cruises at like 1800 rpm at 75mph. I'm at 3000 at 75mph.

I have diven a few LS1 6-speed Camaros and Trans-Ams and I have to say that it is nice having a low overdrive gear. Our 02 5-speed definitly needs one.

Dude don't compare a V8 to our I-4. Usually the more the cylinders the less the rev.

Default Personally comparing to my 3.0. Not trying to start an argument with you?

Just wishing for a taller 6th gear.

Default The 3.0L as a V6, it also revs lower than a I-4. I have not had too many 4 cyl. cars that rev ...

Lower than 2200 rpm at 60 mph.

I'm doing 2800-2850 rpms @ 80 while others are doing 3400 @ 80, I think.
