Do it now...my tensioner was maxed out and close to failure @ 67k

no real reason to replace it preventatively, nor with the TB (on a 1.8T)

They can fail, and changing them at this point is very good insurance. Common practice in the B5's..

Default i did mine at 70k. everything looked ok except for thr water pump. i used the ECS kit with their...

lightweight pully. had it installed at a local indy shop. all said and done, under $800.

Default did mine at 74K full meal deal all fluids (tip/brake) . no thermostat

The electronic thermostat while difficult to replace, well i have 100K warranty so i figure if it dies i'll take a chance on the 100K or have the timing belt changed again.

I anticipate a 120K change. This car loses too much value at high miles to sell really, so it makes a good second car for the family.

Default the thermostat on the B6 is completely different, not a valid comparison

you can count the # of failures experienced by people on this forum on one hand (and I'm one of them). Replacing the thermostat at 60/75k or whenever you do your TB/WP is just pissing away $100 + your time
