What is the biggest difference between the two? I know that the A6 is slightly bigger but anything else. Basically close in price as well.

Any pros and cons?

it would be slower than the A4. If performance is important for you, then A4 would suit you better. If comfort of passengers is more important, then A6 would provide more of it.

I've heard that last years' 2.8 engine on an A6 with automatic tranny was really less than adequate. The 3.0 has more hp, but not that much more.

I think I would opt for the 2.7T or the 4.2 V8 if I were to buy the A6.

Luxury-wise, there was a lot of difference between 2001 A4 and 2001 A6. For this year, however, the luxury aspect of A4 went so high up, that I think it is comparable to the A6.

It's probably a good idea for you to go and test drive both and see which one you like best.

The A6 is roomier, but its no A4. If space is your primary concern, then go for the A6...otherwise, the A4 is much more enjoyable to drive...
Drive them back to back and you'll see the difference.

That's the negative. The A6 has the radio/tape/cd controls on the steering wheel as a positive. That's about as far as I got. The no Sport Package stopped me cold..

Don't get the A6 unless you get the 2.7T. If it is for your wife only, then the 3.0 would work. Everyone I have ever talked to that got the 2.8 or 3.0 A6 wish they didn't get it. However, the 2.7T seems to be out of the range for a lot of people. Audi should ditch the 3.0 engine on the A6. If I could get an A6 2.7T for 3.0 price, it would be an easy purchase.

Do remember that when the 2.7t A6 came out, in manual trim it did 0-60mph in 6 sec and the S4 did it in 5.6-6.0 albeit with better tires and stiffer suspension. The new A4 is the one that put on weight for 2002, 377 to be exact. The A6 suspension is now made of aluminum, which makes it even light than it was.

Although, C&D says the A4 3.0 is 3600 and the A4q is 3750. Both 3.0's in either car is going to produce similar or the same performance. Except in braking, in which I believe the A6 has the bigger brakes. Whichever you choose, get the sport package, you'll be happy.
