Default A4 3.0Q vs 1.8TQ -- which one would you suggest?

I have an '01 S4, and have (FINALLY) convinced my wife that the new car we should get (planning for a baby) is an A4. We plan to lease.

She drove the 3.0Q and liked it, but worried about the cost and went off on an SUV tangent for awhile. She then realized she loves the AUDI and realizes there is no shame in owning two AUDIs.

AUDI is now offering the 5sp 1.8TQ for $299/month for 36 months. She is not averse to chipping it.
However, she wants a Tip (god knows I've tried otherwise).

Any thoughts on which one would be a better way to go (3.0Q vs 1.8TQ). We probably won't end up chipping, but it's a thought. Just the idea of a turbo 4 -- not enough ooomph.

Thanks.

Default 3.0 if you are going with an Auto...

the 1.8T auto can't get out of its own way.

I have a 6spd 3.0... and now that its broken in, the drivability is amazing!

Default Try the A4 4.2 M-spec. edition. I hear it rocks......

Seriously, if you live above 4,000 feet, the 1.8T is just as fast. I wish so much I saved the 6k and got the turbo sometimes. The 3.0 is nice for the amenities you can get, but otherwise a complete sled. I am at 6,000+ feet though, and the turbo is not nearly as affected by altitude.

Default If ur wife's drivin (& auto)....1.8TQ should be fine, esp if she thought of gettin an SUV

Since she wanted an SUV, maybe you should think about the Avant 1.8TQ auto. It's a beautiful looking wagon.

Default I find a big difference in personality between 1.8 5 spd and Trip.

It's amazing how different it is. You really have to drive each.

Default if you come form the S4 the 1.8T stock will be a dog, besides, a lot of people are experiencing vibr

ating issues with their chips.. Atleast I am , and others.. still its not going to feel like the S4. I actually wish I had gotten the 3.0.
