Just claiming that platform sharing is bad doesn't an argument make. After all:
1) VW Jetta = VW Golf = VW New Beetle Audi A3 = Audi TT = Seat Leon (along with a Skoda version as well)
2) Audi A4 (B5 version) = Audi A6 = VW Passat (again, plus Seat and Skoda versions)
It's all a matter of how the models are differentiated to give the cars differing character. It's simple badge transferring rather than proper platform sharing that's the real downer.
In terms of the 9-2X vs. Subura WRX, it is interesting to note that the front quarter panels, hood and tailgate are new sheet metal, the interior is spruced up, significant noise and vibration dampening has been added and the suspension has been retuned. In a sense, it's a nice way to get into a WRX for its performance without having the suffer the awkard front end design and plasticky interior.
