Default The thing that ticks me off is not that my roommate's 330Ci is slightly faster than my 3.0, but that

it gets a hell of a lot better gas mileage AND is still faster. That's ridiculous... (Oh, and he probably drives with a heavier foot than I do)

That's what you get with a lighter, 2wd car.

I wonder if that particular car was purchased through a dealer, or supplied by BMW?

Default You need to think about weight and torque (more).

First off, a 330xi weighs 3483lbs, and an A43.0Q weighs 3580lbs. That's a slight advantage right there. And secondly, as much as it pains many Audi people to admit this, BMW has some spectacularly engineered engines, and the 3.0 I6 is no exception. While an A4 has more peak torque (221 lb/ft to 214 lb/ft), a 330 probably has more area under the torque and power curves, thanks to its double VANOS, which allows better breathing at a greater spread of RPMs. One comment you will consistently read about BMW's engines is how torquey they are. Also, BMWs have lighter flywheels than Audis, which allows faster shifting, faster revving, and slightly better acceleration (with the same engine, of course).

Default I don't understand why Audi claims 6.9s 0-60 when everyone else says 7.1s or higher for the 3.0Q...

I can't think of a review or spec sheet for the 3.0Q that I've read (other than Audi's specs!) that claims anything less than 7.1s for the 0-60 time. What gives?
