You can check it too. Trust me though, that one works. When you tap the fuse, tap it on the left side of the fuse, just like I did.

your questions will be answered as you move forward...
The bending part is the the straight connector attached to the fuse tap. The fuse area cover will not close properly because it will be sticking straight out...And also it will look to sloppy with the wire curling outward...You'll see that if you bend or fold the connector downward as in the fusebox pic, it will look clean and the cover will fit on (Step 5j. below).
<u><b>As for a Write Up...You really don't need one but if you insist, here it is but it is brief</b></u>:
1. Attach V1 at desired location (assuming you like my location, write up is based on that).
2. Attach hardwire cord to V1.
3. Route cord to fuse box. (Refer to Pic Below / Thanks to Tim Butterfield for pic)
3a. Start by tucking cord into headliner along side the windshield.
3b. Work your way to the A-Pillar.
3c. Route cord down A-Pillar. Use a blunt stick (the end of butter knife works well, and sometimes the tip of the butter knife too) to assist in pushing the cord to hide it...Be careful not to cut the cord.
3d. As you come to the dash continue to tuck the cord in till you get to the fuse area.
<img src="http://www.timbutterfield.com/albums/AudiA4V1/aaf.sized.jpg">
4. Push the end of the cord first into the fuse area and take up the rest of the cord slack.
5. Using now the V1 hard wire box:
5a. Attach the round crimp connector to the ground V1 wire.
5b. Attach the straight crimp connector to the hot wire.
5c. Locate a good spot to use the velco V1 has included...My spot, I believe is very good and visisble.
5d. Route connector wires neatly behind the fuse area and poke the wires out the the fuse area as shown in the fuse area pic.
5e. Remove the fusebox screw and attach the V1 ground (ref to pic).
5f. Remove the blade fuse (ref to pic) and attach the fuse tap to the left blade of the fuse.
5g. Attach the fuse blade w/the tap back into its location...It will be very snug in that the left blade of the fuse is now 3 time thicker...So just press firmly.
5i. Attach the staight connector to the exposed fuse tap sticking out.
5j. Bend the staight connector downward to clean up the wiring and to allow for the fuse area cover to fit better.
5k. Collect all the V1 hardwiring together behind the fuse area and ziptie or tape together to clean up the extra wiring...Attach or push the extra wire securely somewhere back there...In my pic, I ziptied it to an adjacent bracket.
6. Make sure V1 is off.
7. Attach V1 cord to the Hardwire box.
8. Turn ignition on or to accessory mode.
9. Turn V1 to test.
10. Done.
Really the 10 steps above is really not that hard...Just get started and you should be fine...
Good luck

my friend just installed my bel 985...we tapped into an ignition wire in the sunroof motor wire harness...so much easier than running it all the way to the fuse box...
just pop off the light over, unplug the motor harness for the sunroof...we used the red wire with the white stripe...if you have a tester, test each wire with the car on and off to figure it out...worked great for me

i would do that but it's a valentine 1. it comes with a big power source so it needs to go into the fuse box because there is room in there. I would do that if I were to hardwire a Escort or in your case a Bel detector. thanks for the input though!

Here is what I did:
1) Flatten the end of the wire (thinner is better)
2) Put the end over the fuse slot
3) Push the wire in with the fuse
The fuse holds the wire in the slot. The fuse I selected allows the V1 to turn on/off with the ignition.

On the right side of this pic is the male end.
<img src="http://www.radioshack.com/images/ProductCatalog/ProductImage/270/270-1204.jpg">
Fit the above into a fuse, insert it into the fusebox & the male end should be sticking out...Now just insert the female connector...
Not exactly sure what you can't figure out???
