Default About the musty odor coming from the A/C...it came back (more)

The musty odor came back...called service department and scheduled an appointment for them to take care of the problem. They will perform something similar to the TSB woofpup posted earlier with regards to the "Airsept" procedure.
The Lysol treatment only worked for a week or so.

Default Sorry to hear it... Like I said, to try and prevent it in the future, run the fan for a (more)

few minutes with the AC OFF (i.e. in Econ mode) before turning the car off, when you've been running the AC for a while. This helps dry up condensation so that mold won't form in the system (causing the smell).

Having to do this is something I would not expect to have to do on a Audi. I have the same AC 'odor'

Default Happens on all cars, it's inherent in an automotive A/C system

Why does the brand have anything to do with it? My Merc and my friend's BMW do the same thing if you don't follow woofpup's procedure, as will all cars.

Default GM actually seems to have a technical bulletin in which they suggest installing (more)

an electronic blower control that pulses the blower after the car is turned off for a while to dry out the condenser (assuming the AC was run for longer than 3 minutes).

However, it sounds like they only do this on an as-needed basis: http://www.gmtcny.com/afterblow.htm

Otherwise, the standard rules apply - like phred said, it's common across most cars. Some people even suggest running the HEAT full blast with the AC off for the last few minutes, to dry things faster.

Default Try to have them replace the evaporator...(m)

it happened to me with my '00. They "cleaned"(flushed) it but it came back rather soon. Eventually replaced the evap, and it was solved.

Check the post above. I predict lots of sardine oil in the wind vents.

Always keep the manual recirculation mode on with A/C and you won't every have this problem.

Default Is there a way to always get the RECIRC A/C on, even when you turn on the car?

If I turn off the car with the recirculate button ON, it will fall back to FRESH air (not recirc) when I turn it back on....is there a way to make it stay in RECIRC mode all the time?
