My AC stinks like a wet, dirty mop. I told the dealer about this last time I took the car in and all they did was spray a deodorizer. Didn't work. Anyone got any ideas of where I should look or what I should try? Air freshener works as well as cologne after going to the gym.

I had the same problem on my 99 Passat. Dealer charged $240 and some change to do it. Stealership said to run the heat sometimes after you run the air conditioning.

if the smell still persists then pick up some BG Frigi-fresh, this will kill the bacteria you are smelling.

i always used to drive with recycle air on all the time, but i was told if you turn off the car with it still on recycle a flap that would normally open will remain closed when the car is off and the heat will cause dripping water to sit in there...
my friend told me that i had to believe that sounded reasonable anyway after 45k miles its probably too late for my car... and it only smells and not that bad when it first goes on so i dont really care that much... it goes away in 2 seconds
